Project Description:
Glowork is the first website dedicated to females recruitment in Saudi Arabia. It is formed by young Saudi entrepreneurs who aim to bring empowerment to ladies and increase diversity in the Saudi workforce. This project was launched June 2011. The current unemployment rate for women is at 86%. The main objective of Glowork is to help create an environment where women can work, while respecting the socio-economic values and traditions, and to create new opportunities for women through sectors that have not yet been tapped.
Why this project is a Good Practice example:
Glowork established a web site solely dedicated to women, which links job seekers and employers together.  This approach is a good practice example of a solution to the constraints in the Kingdom.  It allows women to search and apply for jobs from their homes. Glowork's "working from home" and virtual office system is a replicable solution that has enabled SMEs to hire women in Saudi Arabia.  Previously, these SMEs could not hire females due to a segregation policy in the labor laws.  However, our virtual office system allows females to work from home and be fully monitored by performance managers. This approach creates jobs for those with special needs and creates opportunities for educated women in rural areas.
Glowork also conducts many workshops and on-the-ground activities that aims to change the society mindset, through innovative marketing that respects the religion and intact with our traditions and values, which has received endorsement from the Ministry of Labor.

Lessons Learned:
When Glowork established its web site, the team found that a lot of research had to go into it, to understand how to make it user friendly to both jobseekers and employers.

The team also found that expanding horizons to include a significant amount of on-the-ground activities helped to support and improve the overall objectives of the initiative.
